Allow your visitors to save their forms for later

If your forms are long, you can give your visitors the option of saving what they have done for submission at a later date.

If your website has some long forms that take a lot of time and effort for your visitors to fill in, you can allow your visitors to save what they have done so that they can come back later.

You can do this by selecting ‘Yes’ in the ‘Allow users to save details for later submission’ option in the Form Configuration section of your form. Now when a visitor fills in your form, they can press the Save for Later button to save their answers.

You can define what the form displays to your visitors by changing the values of the Saved for later message and the Returning to saved form message:

  • Saved for later message – the message that is shown when the user presses Save for Later. The default is “Your form has been saved. When you next return to this page, the form will be pre-populated with the values you have entered so far, ready for you to edit, complete, and submit.”
  • Returning to saved form message – the message that is shown at the top of the form when a visitor returns to a form he or she has previously saved. The default is “You previously saved this form. It is pre-populated with your values, ready for you to edit, complete, and submit.”

Note that the save for later option is only available to visitors who have signed into your site. If your site does not allow users to sign in, then this feature will not be available to you.

If your form is set up to save submissions in the database, you have the option of viewing forms that have been saved but not yet submitted.

These forms are called partial forms.

To view partial forms:

  1. Go to the Submitted Forms page within your site’s control panel.
  2. Find the form you want to view and click Manage.
  3. Tick the Include partial submissions option in the Partial submissions section.
  4. When you then download the form as CSV, the partial submissions will be clearly indicated in the resulting file.
