What does this mean?

Sometimes you may attempt to save a page and you are unable to do so due to what is generally known as a Resource Permissions Error.

From the outset, it looks as though you don’t have permissions to save the page, perhaps due to you not having the correct rights to the resource folders of your site – this is not actually the cause in most cases.

Resource Permissions Errors occur when there is a historic link to a resource that no longer exists in your site’s resource folders. The Cubik Content Management System recognises that the resource no longer exists but cannot proceed with saving your page until the reference has been removed.

However, the link’s presence in the page may not be entirely obvious; for example, an image may have once had a hyperlink to another resource, say, a PDF document. Sometimes, if you remove the image, the link to the PDF document may still remain in the underlying code of your page content.

How can it be stopped?

You will notice that the error gives reference to a long, alphanumeric string, known as a GUID. This is a unique string that identifies all pages, resources and much more. In this context, the GUID will refer to a resource.

In order to remove the reference to the deleted resource:

  1. Highlight the GUID in the error message and copy by holding down Ctrl and pressing C;
  2. Enable HTML by placing a tick in the HTML Mode checkbox at the bottom of the content area. If you use IE8, and this does not work, please read the information regarding compatibility issues with the editor.
  3. Hold Ctrl and press F to pop-up the search pane in your browser and hold Ctrl and press V to paste the GUID into text box; press enter;
  4. Once the string is found, it should be highlighted (figure 2.). It is recommended that you remove the entire link, from the leading <A ... to the trailing ...<A/> by highlighting as above and hitting Delete;
  5. Repeat for each GUID shown in the error message.

Once you’ve completed the above steps as necessary, you should now be able to save the page without the error occurring. If the error reoccurs and you are unable to find the reference to the GUID yourself, then please forward a request to our helpdesk, including in your email a link to the affected page.
