11 Tips for Improved Search Engine Performance

Following these tips will ensure your site is as accessible to Search Engine crawlers as possible.

  1. Web pages that you are wanting to appear in search results should contain at least 200 words of visible text.
  2. These web pages should contain enough textual content for visitors and search engines to find out what the site is about.
  3. Pages should be linked so that visitors and search engine crawlers can navigate the site using the links on other pages.
  4. At least four of the web pages on the site should be optimised for best search terms. I.e. that term should appear frequently on the pages. Each web page should be optimised for no more than two key phrases.
  5. Key phrases should consist of two to four words.
  6. Search terms should bring targeted visitors and not just be about high search volume.
  7. Single keywords should be avoided.
  8. It is important that the search terms are defined to attract the right visitors.
  9. Remember that statistics show that internet users who use four-word search terms are more likely to buy goods or services than those who use fewer words.
  10. Make the website useful. Give the end user what they want, good informative content, well worded and logically set out.
  11. Search engines are designed to index TEXT INFORMATION, which is content. A site with little text is at a disadvantage in respect of being crawled by search engines.
