Text
Turning basic text into a link to another page within the site or to navigate to another site is an easy process that we will demonstrate step-by-step.
- When editing a page highlight the phrase you want to turn into a link. For accessibility reasons, it is advisable not to use one word or generic links, such as 'click here'. The link must be 'descriptive in isolation'.
- With this phrase highlighted you select - the Hyperlink Manager. This will open the Hyperlink Manager window.
URL | The URL field is for entering the address of the page you would like to link to. To link to a page on an external site, you must enter the full URL e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport. For links to internal pages, you just have to click on which is adjacent to the text box, and find the required page in the website tree. |
Link Text | The Link text is the text highlighted when you opened the Hyperlink Manager. You can edit the text in this field. |
Type | This is used to select the type of link, e.g. http: for web pages, news for newsgroups. |
Target | The Target field controls the window type that will be opened when a Visitor clicks on the link. If you want the link to open in a new window select '_blank'. |
Tooltip | For usability, it is useful to enter some tooltip text describing the link. This will be displayed when a cursor hovers over the link. |
CSS Class | This displays the style sheet class of the selected link text. |
- Having configured the link correctly you can select 'OK' and continue editing your page.
