Anchor Links

If you have created long pages of text, anchor links make it easy for the site visitor to quickly access the information they require.

An anchor link is a link to another part of a page. The place that you link to is called the target, or anchor. The text that a visitor clicks is called the link.

There are two steps to creating an anchor link:

  1. Create the anchor - the place that the user will be taken to when they click the link.
  2. Create the link - the text that the user clicks.

Create the anchor

When creating 'Anchor Links' the first thing you need to do is create the anchor.

  1. When editing a page highlight the word or phrase you want to turn into the anchor. Remember, this is the part of the page that you want the user to be taken to when they click the link.
  2. With this phrase highlighted you select Hyperlink Manager - the Hyperlink Manager. Then select the 'Anchor' tab. Enter a short, memorable word as the Name (for example, enter "anchor") and select 'OK'.

Add the link

Having created the Anchor you can then link to it.

  1. Highlight the text that you want the user to click to be taken to the position you added as the anchor above. Once you have done this select Hyperlink Manager - the Hyperlink Manager.
  2. In the URL box, type a "#" followed by the name you gave to the anchor above e.g. '#anchor'. The 'Link Text' box will be populated by the text you have highlighted to become the link.

Having configured the link correctly you can select 'OK' and continue editing your page.
