Administrator
Specific roles can be assigned to a User by adding them to a specific User Group within the User Administration function on the Control Panel. The Administrator(s) of the site are the only users with access to this area of the site and they are the only User Group that has full control. Administrators are able to perform all standard functions on the site, as well as administer user roles, access submitted forms reports, create channels and upload resources to the resource gallery.
Anonymous User
Anonymous users are visitors to your site who have not signed in to it. They can only see content on your site which is publically visible on the internet.
Asset Uploader
This feature allows the upload of multiple files at once, and to scale images automatically to sizes that are suited for display on your website. The Asset Uploader is available via the link on the Resource Manager dialogue.
Author
Specific roles can be assigned to a User by adding them to a specific User Group within the User Administration function of the Control Panel. One of the standard User Groups on the OneStopCMS is Author. An Author can create new pages, edit pages and submit them to the Users aligned to the Editor group to approve the pages for publishing.

C

Cache (or Caching)
You will often hear us telling you your page has been 'cached' (pronounced 'cashed'). A cache is a store of recently accessed data. To make web surfing faster, your web browser will store recently visited pages on your internal memory. When the site is revisited, the browser displays pages from the cache, instead of requesting them from the server. Search engines also use caching to minimise search times. Rather than scanning every website in the world when you run a search, it will instead produce the results from its internal cache. Some data such as custom properties on postings are cached on the OneStopCMS servers. This cache is refreshed regularly, but may mean that sometimes you have to wait a little while for a change to become visible on your site.
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
These are the files that dictate the look and feel of your website. Any change in design requires a change to these files by Cubik.
Channel
A channel can be thought of as a section of your website, or as a folder that can contain postings (pages) and other channels. Every posting on your site resides in a channel and it is the channels which are used to give your site structure.
Content
Postings are themselves website content. In addition to text, postings can contain other content elements (for example, images, links to downloadable documents and so forth). These content elements which supplement the core textual content are known as ‘Resources’.
Control Panel
The Control Panel is accessible to administrators only and is the area on the site where you can control user permissions, view lists of submitted forms and can view user and workflow audits. However, the number of options on your website will vary dependant on the features deployed on your website.

D

Domain Name System (DNS)
DNS records are what turn a URL (web address) into an IP address. They instruct your URL to point at our server, making your site visible to site visitors.

Editor
Specific roles can be assigned to a User by adding them to a specific User Group within the User Administration function of the Control Panel. One of the standard User Groups on the OneStopCMS is Editor. Editors can edit pages created and submitted by Authors and approve them to be published on the live site. They can also reject pages not fit for publishing and they can use the resources available in the resource gallery.

Hidden Page

This function can be used to hide a page until you are ready for it to be published or hide it from the navigation so that it is only accessible via a clickable link such as a via a Channel Summary or hyperlink. You can hide a page by selecting 'Hide when Published' in the Page properties.

IP Address

M

Metadata
This is information that you can add to your pages to further describe what they are about, and to assist searches. For example, in an event's calendar, a meeting in Newcastle would have metadata placed against it describing it as being in the North-East Region. A user can then instruct the calendar to only display events in the North-East and this meeting would appear, along with other events with this metadata placed against it.
Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS)
MCMS is the Microsoft product that OneStopCMS is built on. It has been created specifically for enterprises that require content management functionality on their website or Intranet.
Mondosearch
MondoSearch is the third party product that we base the search field of our websites on. It assists users in quickly finding relevant data from across the site. In conjunction with Google Analytics, it can now also be used to monitor the user experience and track what is being searched for on your site.

Payment Provider
A payment provider is a service that exists to process credit card transactions on your behalf. The service is provided by a third-party financial institution and ensures that financial transactions taken via your website are safe and secure. The Cubik system can currently integrate with 7 different payment providers, but we can quote for the work involved in integrating with a new provider if you would like us to.
Pixel
The word pixel comes from the term 'Picture Element'. Your website is effectively a grid, made up of millions of coloured cells (or pixels). These pixels are put together to create the visual layout of the site. When someone says an image needs to be 120x100 pixels it means it needs to cover a rectangle 120 pixels wide, by 100 pixels high, which means that it contains 12,000 pixels.
Placeholder
Placeholders are the editable areas of content on your website. For example, the Page Body Content text boxes on all pages are placeholders, as are Link Lists. Each different placeholder allows you to add content to your page in a different way.
Podcasts
A podcast is a series of audio or video files which is distributed over the Internet by syndicated download, through Web feeds, to portable media players and personal computers. Though the same content may also be made available by direct download or streaming, a podcast is distinguished from most other digital media formats by its ability to be syndicated, subscribed to, and downloaded automatically when new content is added. A podcast template is available as standard as part of OneStopCMS and can be used so that users can subscribe to a podcast via the website.
Posting
A Posting is another word for a page on your website. All of the content on your site is made up of postings which are placed inside channels. A posting is based on a template, which describes the layout and functionality of the posting.

R

Resource
An image or document that is stored in the Resource Gallery for use on the website.
Resource Galleries are for storing files such as images and PDF files that you want to reference or display on pages. These files must be loaded into a Resource Gallery before you can reference them from a page. Use the Resource Manager on the blue console to access your resource gallery folders and upload your resource files.
If you set up a web form and use the Radio Button or Check Box List input type, you can include images that represent each of the allowed values. The images will be displayed on screen rather than the Radio Button or Check Box List.
Rich Site Summary (RSS)
RSS is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.

Web Browser
A Web browser is a software application which enables a user to display and interact with text, images, music and other information typically located on a Web page. Text and images on a Web page can contain hyperlinks to other Web pages at the same or different Web site. Web browsers allow a user to quickly and easily access information provided on many Web pages at many Web sites by traversing these links. Web browsers format HTML information for display, so you may notice the appearance of a Web page may differ between browsers.
