Here are some pointers to help you to remember everything that makes a great page.

Write for the web

  • When people read text on a computer screen, they are far more likely to skim-read, especially paragraphs that are longer than three or four lines.
  • People prefer to read bullet lists, so have as many of them as you can.

Write for search engines

  • Think about how you want your pages to be found on search engines.
  • Use your keywords liberally within your text, but keep your sentences making sense to humans too.

Add a description

  • Your page’s description makes your page look better – a nice coloured introduction paragraph at the top of your page.
  • Your page’s description is shown as a tooltip on any links to that page.
  • Your page’s description is shown on Channel Summary pages that link through to the page. Make it enticing – make people want to read your page.
  • Usually, your page’s description is used in search engine results when your page is shown on a search engine.

Approve your page

  • Don’t forget to approve your page if you want visitors to read it!

Add A-Z keywords

  • If you use an A-Z browse page on your site, don’t forget to add the keywords to your page. They’re on Page Properties > Custom > AtoZKeywords. Separate your keywords with a semicolon (;)

Add Posting Contact Details

  • It’s always a good idea to full in the Posting Contact Details placeholder on all of your pages so that readers can contact you directly from the page.
  • Don’t use an individual’s email address. If that person subsequently leaves your company, you don’t want to have to update hundreds of pages. Try using a generic email address such as info@mycompany.com.

Add a Page Link Icon

  • When your page is linked to from a Channel Summary page, the image that you add as a Page Link Icon will be shown alongside the link.
  • Use different images to keep your site fresh and to make your links interesting.

Add related links

  • All pages allow you to define a list of related pages. These links are presented nicely and allow your visitors to explore your rich linked content. They're one more think that makes your page look complete and attractive.
